NRG PALLAS welcomes decision to commence PALLAS Construction Phase

03 July 2025

On 1 July, caretaker Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport, Daniëlle Jansen, informed Parliament that the PALLAS project may now proceed to its next phase. Earlier preparatory work has been completed, including the site layout, excavation of the construction pit, and the foundation of the reactor.

NRG PALLAS, together with its partners, is fully prepared to begin the next stage: the construction of the reactor building and associated systems. In her letter, the Minister stated that the Gate Review report confirms both the project organisation and the Ministry are ready to move forward with the implementation phase.

CEO Maurits Wolleswinkel commented:
"We are delighted that the Minister of Health, Welfare and Sport has decided to move forward with the implementation phase of construction ahead of the summer recess. Each day, thousands of patients—both within the Netherlands and abroad—rely on the medical isotopes produced in Petten for vital diagnostics and treatments. The construction of the PALLAS reactor, which will succeed the current High Flux Reactor, is essential to safeguarding the future supply of these isotopes. The Netherlands and Europe are determined not to become dependent on external sources for this critical resource. With this green light, NRG PALLAS is ready to move forward with energy and confidence, further strengthening its leading role in the global medical isotope market.”
